Number 5: Ottawa at $1,330/month
Number 4: Edmonton at $1,461/month (from $1,179 in October 2014)
Number 3: Calgary at $1,522/month (from $1,511 in October 2014)
Number 2: Vancouver at $1,543/month
Number 1: Toronto at $1,754/month
**Quebec City was the least expensive of the 16 condo markets surveyed by CMHC at $1,065/month

Number 5: Ottawa at $1,172/month
Number 4: Edmonton at $1,259/month
Number 3: Toronto at $1,274/month
Number 2: Calgary at $1,332/month
Number 1: Vancouver at $1,360/month
** The least expensive apartment rents in the country are in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec at $581.
CMHC also reported that there is an increasing number of rental apartments sitting unoccupied in Calgary and Edmonton as the oil price decline takes its toll on the market.
The vacancy rate for Calgary’s condo rental market was 4.9 percent last month and the apartment building market vacancy rate was 5.3 percent.
Canada’s housing agency notes that fewer Canadians are moving to the province as energy companies cut back on capital spending and cut jobs in the face of the oil price decline.
Calgary and Edmonton still rank among the Top 5 most expensive rental markets within Canada.
