Everyone wants to maximize the space in their home and to do this, a basement renovation will provide the additional space that people desire and it will increase the value of a home.
Renovations can be expensive but a basement can still be created on a budget. Here are some tips:
Choose Budget-Friendly Flooring
Although there are a huge selection of flooring available, selecting laminate floors over natural wood floors is a great choice because natural wood floors tend to shrink and expand with changes in temperature and humidity causing gaps and warping. Vinyl floors work well for basements that are prone to water and dampness. Adding an area rug as the last touch will create warmth and an overall cozier atmosphere.
Custom Cabinets For Less
Investing in built-in cabinets for toys, books and personal items can maximize on linear storage. Carpenters can take ready made, big-box-store cabinets and transform them into custom-look built-ins. Drywall or filler pieces around cabinets can be added to create a custom look.
Spend on Lighting
Pot lights are an excellent addition to a basement. Purchase pot lights that are flush with a ceiling and a dimmer switch to adjust lighting needs. Pot lights can be installed in both drywall and suspended ceilings.
Paint and Save
Painting the walls with warm colours or adding pops of bright hues can add character and make a basement brighter. Avoid tones that can make a basement dull especially when natural light is limited. Getting rid of brick, old paneling or stone can become costly instead consider painting these finishes for a contemporary look.
